The information technology sector is expected to see the fastest growth in Turkey this year, according to a report by a leading research and consulting firm.
Turkey’s market for information technologies will grow by 15 percent in 2011, according to the “Electronic Information and Trends 2011” prepared by Deloitte. The report also said the mobile traffic would increase 66-fold in the coming five years.
The services and software market still has a small share compared to the hardware market in Turkey, where the gap will continue to increase due to significant increases in value added offerings, unlike in other emerging economies, the report said.
The total share of the electronic communications market in Turkey, excluding traditional radio and television broadcasting, has increased by 3.2 percent, reaching a total value of $27.3 million, according to the European Information Technology Observatory, or EITO’s, information and communication technologies market report. The report also said the sector was expected to grow 7.2 percent reaching a value of $29.3 million during 2011.
Three-fourths of global mobile traffic will consist of data while the remaining 25 percent would be from voice sources in 2011, according to the report. Voice traffic on fixed lines will diminish gradually while data traffic will increase 50 percent each year, the report said.
There is almost no foreign investment in the market, if Türk Telekom and Telsim sales are kept out, according to the report. Although landline and mobile telephony are key alternatives for investment in emerging countries, it is not as preferred in Turkey, the report said.
