CIGNA, a leader in direct marketed supplemental health, life and accident insurance in the international marketplace, announced Tuesday the launch of a new office and operations in Turkey.
CIGNA Hayat Insurance, based in Istanbul, will offer individuals in Turkey products and services that provide supplemental health care and financial protection.
“Our direct distribution capabilities differentiate us and will provide value to the people of Turkey,” said Bill Atwell, president of CIGNA International. “Our expansion into Turkey shows CIGNA’s commitment to being a global health services company, and our locally staffed team and operations represent our customer-centric approach to the marketplace.”
CIGNA’s decision to enter Turkey follows a detailed analysis of the local insurance industry and the insurance needs and behavior of the Turkish people. With Turkish-based sales, operations and client management teams, the company will be able to serve customers by offering innovative products and services.
“Turkey represents a significant opportunity for CIGNA, because our unique product portfolio and distribution model reflects the needs of the consumer and is tailored to the marketplace,” Atwell said.
“We aim to offer CIGNA products and services to about 5 million people in five years [in Turkey] through phone [advertising], television and the Internet,” said Refik Berkol, the chief executive officer of CIGNA Hayat Insurance.
As a fully licensed insurer in Turkey, CIGNA will initially offer personal accident and life policies that are simple to understand, affordable and easy to access through a variety of direct marketing channels. Additional products will be added to the portfolio in the future, the company said.
CIGNA has more than 7 million health, life and accident policies in force around the world and sales capacity in 30 countries and jurisdictions.
